Witkoff’s negotiation approach with Putin Spark’s concern in the White House, reports Nyp

The special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, takes care of diplomacy with high stakes with Russia and Iran within the White House because of his unconventional approach.

Witkoff, who appeared as Trump’s de -Facto -Personal envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin and at the same time treated the Middle East, has taken part in Solo meetings with foreign leaders.

According to New York Post Sources, Witkoff even used Kremlin translators during the discussion with Putin -a violation of the Standard -Us -Diplomatic practice.

Another source described Witkoff as a “nice guy, but a fiddling idiot” and added: “He shouldn’t do that alone.”

Before meeting Putin on April 25, Witkoff welcomed the Russian President informally and without the habit of consultants, military officers or experts who usually accompany high -ranking US negotiators.

In contrast, Putin was accompanied by his adjutant Yuri Ushakov and the head of the Russian direct investment fund Kirill Dmitriev.

Witkoff’s attitude alerted troubling civil servants because he often repeats Putin’s stories, while he is supposed to lack a clear understanding of the position of Ukraine. Keith Kellogg remains assigned the role of the special representative for Ukraine.

After meeting Putin in St. Petersburg on April 11, Witkoff said that the discussions on a potential peace agreement focused on “five areas”.

Although he did not explicitly named them, he seemed to refer the Crimea annexed by Russia in 2014, and the partially occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts that Moscow claimed in 2022.

“I think we could be about something that would be very important for the world as a whole,” said Witkoff in an interview with Fox News on April 14th.

Trump claims that 5,000 Russian Ukrainian soldiers were killed every week. Here is what the numbers say

After the deadliest attack on Kyiv since last summer, US President Donald Trump seemed to lose patience with Russia and post on social media: “Vladimir, stop! 5,000 soldiers die per week. Let us do the peace agreement!” Trump repeated a number he quoted

In addition to his role in the Ukraine Russia negotiations, Witkoff was also commissioned to mediate the Middle East and checked the Iranian nuclear agreement.

He helped secure a two -month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which began but not extended shortly before Trump’s inauguration. However, his limited diplomatic background has triggered doubts about his ability to cope with complex international negotiations.

“Steve Witkoff is just someone Trump Trusts,” said Alexandra Filippenko, an expert in US Russia relationships, to The Kyiv Independent. She found that her relationship would go back to Manhattan in the 1980s. “Trump appreciates this kind of loyalty,” she said.

Filippenko emphasized that Witkoff’s outstanding role in such sensitive negotiations remains “an unusual agreement” despite the operation outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Who are Russia’s allies and can Kreml’s war machine survive without them?

The Russia’s defense industry has adapted to new normality for more than three years since the complete invasion of Ukraine in Moscow. Despite a network of international sanctions to cripple military production, factories across the country were still able to build balls and shells, drones and military vehicles.
