Price Drop Alert: The Dyson Gen5detect at a record low price is my favorite Black Friday deal for 2024

In my Dyson Gen5detect review I called it “impressive,” but my biggest issue was its price. While a starting price of AU$1,499 is quite normal for a Dyson, in my opinion it’s just too much for a cordless vacuum cleaner, even one as powerful as the Gen5detect.

The RRP alone for the Absolute model, available at most authorized dealers, is AU$1,549. You get two motorized cleaning heads and three additional attachments. However, if you want all the bells and whistles – the five attachments mentioned above, plus three more and a freestanding docking station – you should go for the complete model, which normally costs AU$1,599 at full price. Sure, you get the point, but who has that kind of money to spend on a great vacuum cleaner?!

However, Black Friday sales were successful, with some of the biggest price cuts on Dyson products I’ve seen in seven years, and they include both Gen5detect models. The Absolute is 44% off at Amazon at AU$869.99, while the Complete is 45% off at just AU$879, making it my pick for the best Black Friday deal this year!

As you’ve probably already guessed, the only difference between the Absolute and the Complete is the color scheme of the vacuum cleaners themselves and the included attachments. All other functions remain the same.

With an impressive suction power of 262aw (approx. 2,101 Pascal), the Gen5detect is Dyson’s most powerful vacuum cleaner and can suck up dust and fibers even from deep within carpets. But I don’t have to preach to the whole choir about how good a Dyson vacuum cleaner really is, do I?

A big improvement over the previous model is that the Gen5detect does not have a trigger on the handle to turn it on. Instead, there is a real power button above the display, which I was very pleased with when testing this model. (See the detailed comparison of the two in our Dyson Gen5detect vs. V15 duel.)

Since the larger battery used here is slightly more top-heavy compared to the V15 Detect, the lack of the trigger – which you would have to constantly hold down to power the machine – means there isn’t as much pressure on your wrist and forearm. It’s a design change that I’m all for.

Another reason for the slightly higher weight is the integrated crevice nozzle. It’s really handy to have it right in the tube itself, but I personally prefer the separate attachment – but that’s a minor point for me now.

Honestly, if you’re stronger than me (which you probably will be, dear reader), then this is a cordless vacuum deal I can highly recommend, especially the Complete model.

However, if you have the muscle for a better option, the Dyson Gen5outsize is perfect for larger homes and is more than just a larger bin. It also has an even larger battery that lasts up to 140 minutes and larger floor cleaning attachments to get the job done faster. And the Complete model directly from Dyson is also reduced to a record-breaking price of just AU$898.
