U.S. News has released its national rankings of nearly 25,000 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The rankings include traditional high schools as well as charter, magnet and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) institutions. According to the official website, about 17,660 schools were evaluated based on six key factors, including performance on state assessments and college readiness.
In addition to the national rankings, US News also identified the top public high schools in each state. Today we highlight the top ten public high schools in New Jersey known for their academic excellence and student success.

New Jersey’s best public high schools excel in academic performance, college readiness and graduation rates, reflecting their commitment to educating future-ready students. At the top is High Technology High School, ranked No. 1 in the country and No. 24 nationally, with a perfect graduation rate and college readiness score and serving only 285 students. Likewise, Edison Academy Magnet School and Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health secure 2nd and 3rd spots, boasting remarkable college readiness scores of 93.8 and 97.6, respectively, and perfect graduation rates.
Larger schools like Bergen County Academies, ranked No. 4 in New Jersey, boast a balance of academic excellence and high enrollment, boasting a 95.7% college readiness rate and a 99% graduation rate at 1,116 praise students. Also schools like the Biotechnology High School and the Dr. Ronald E. McNair High School boasts a college readiness rate of over 88% and commendable graduation rates.
Interestingly, all ten schools achieve a 100% graduation rate, reflecting their commitment to student success. However, college readiness scores vary, with schools like the Academy for Allied Health Science trailing slightly at 74.1. These rankings highlight a mix of specialized and technical curricula that prepare students for competitive college admissions and high-demand careers.
